A Smart BI Tool for Daily Work Planning.
MKS' Ophir site in Jerusalem develops and manufactures instrumentation for laser diagnostics (power, energy, and beam profile). With hundreds of different products and just as many customers, keeping the production floor running smoothly is a complex and demanding challenge.
To enhance our production planning, I developed an interactive BI tool that generates a clear, structured work list for each production station every day. This tool enables effective management of open orders, task prioritization and resource allocation, by providing a comprehensive view by item, station, priority, and quantity.
Before we implemented this innovative tool, a planner would have to manually compile the work plan. Spending hours sorting through large volumes of data. Because of the complexity, work plans were only created on a weekly basis, making it difficult to accommodate changes during the week. Now, with the Smart BI tool, we leverage an Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) process that automatically pulls relevant data and generates a daily work plan.
Because this tool has automated updates and can dynamically adapt to changing parameters - such as the arrival of a new high-priority order - it has significantly increased our operational agility. This innovation not only saves time but also empowers planners and production teams to respond in real time, optimize resource allocation, and maintain a steady production flow.
