You just have to know where to look.
Staying innovative means believing that it is always possible to find a different way of doing things.
Production processes offer endless possibilities for improvement - operationally, administratively and in our planning methods. We addressed each of these areas in the case of production solid materials in Mexico.
We have one vessel available to manufacture 17 different solid materials. The vessel has a maximum capacity of 1.8 tons per batch, so we needed to find an innovative way to increase the productivity of this process to cover customer demand.
Since we couldn’t change the vessel capacity, we took a different approach. We looked into our planning processes.
We developed a lean manufacturing schedule plan that allowed us to produce more batches per day. This schedule increased the time available to utilize the vessel for the value-added task of producing product, while decreasing the non-value-added time of cleaning and preparation. As a result, the quality control analysis process was more effective.
It’s always possible to find an innovative solution. You just have to know where to look.
