"The Forrester Wave™: Agile Development Management Tools, Q2 2010"
MKS Named a Leader in Agile Development Management Tools
By Dave West, Jeffrey S. Hammond with Mike Gilpin, David D'Silva - Forrester Research, Inc., May, 2010
Forrester Research, Inc. has assessed the state of the Agile development management (ADM) tools market, reviewing ALM vendors and Agile project management tools against 152 criteria. MKS achieved the highest scores from Forrester in the 'Process Configuration', 'Security' and 'Running a Project' subcategories of the analysis and received the second highest score for its current offering (scoring 3.92 out of 5.00, just 0.01 points behind the highest-rated offering).
This comes as no surprise to MKS customers making use of our Agile solutions, and Forrester's research points to the continuing increases in Agile adoption as a driving force behind the need to expand the reach and support for Agile methods within ALM.
Particularly for our enterprise customers that must comply with regulation and governance while adopting more Agile methods, the report states that the MKS offering is "...very attractive for industries where compliance and audit are high priorities for developers." The report continues, noting that, "MKS [offers] an Agile, Scrum-like template out of the box, which, coupled with the very flexible and extendable workflow model, would provide strong support for organizations that follow a "Scrum, but..." or hybrid Agile approach."

Intelligent ALM™ - The Prerequisite for Enterprise Agile
By Colin Doyle, Customer Requirements Manager, MKS Inc.
There are plenty of examples that clearly show the benefits of Agile in grass roots and pilot implementations, but does Agile provide all those benefits on an enterprise level? If so, how do we scale Agile in an enterprise environment? Can it coexist with traditional processes?
How do we build the business case for enterprise adoption and then successfully roll out Agile to other parts of the organization? To get the answers, click here to read the full article.
Enterprise Agile Development with MKS Integrity
Agile software development methods can deliver tremendous impact to software development. Studies show Agile can deliver higher quality, shorter development cycles, improved customer value, and lower costs... the value is clear. However, Agile is not a magic bullet - there are key factors to consider when implementing Agile in the enterprise context to produce the results you're looking for in terms of improved quality, more rapid cycle times and cost savings.
The challenge for a large enterprise often becomes balancing the flexibility, transparency and collaboration needed for Agile while ensuring management oversight across both Agile and traditional teams.

What Agile Software Vendors are Missing: Forrester
By Kathleen Lau, on: 11 May 2010 for: ComputerWorld Canada
One challenge facing large Agile development shops is keeping track of what individual teams are doing, and allocating developers, testers and other resources across an array of projects.
Jeffrey Hammond, principal analyst with Cambridge, Mass.-based Forrester Research Inc., said he's observed organizations that run multiple concurrent Agile development projects having difficulty applying a management process around all that.
"Teams may have a really good idea what they're working on with their whiteboards and their glass walls with posted notes on it, but it's really hard to bring the CIO down to see that when he asks what's going on," said Hammond.

Intelligent ALM - A Prerequisite for Successful Enterprise Agile
Agile success stories tend to be found in smaller organizations or dedicated teams. To date, successful enterprise Agile transformations are much less common. Scaling Agile becomes difficult when you have:
- many developers in many sites, precluding face-to-face interaction and customer collaboration;
- business requirements that translate to multiple user stories across multiple teams, leading to complex prioritization and coordination of business requests and requirements; or
- established processes and/or governance demands that must coexist with Agile methods.
In this webinar, we will outline why Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) is a prerequisite for successful enterprise Agile transformation. Special attention will be paid to the needs of organizations that must support a mix of Waterfall, Iterative, Agile and hybrid processes. View it on-demand.

Agile Development Doesn't Have to Mean Fragile Enterprise Process
As more and more large enterprises today look to adopt Agile approaches for major projects or their entire organization, they are realizing that application of traditional Agile methodologies as-is, will not address enterprise concerns such as scalability and regulatory compliance. This paper discusses why Agile practices and approaches must be blended with proven enterprise practices to achieve the right mix of agility and discipline.
Scalability is achieved by leveraging a robust and unified application lifecycle management solution to automate processes and activities where possible, improve visibility and transparency across the organization, and automatically provide status reporting as a by-product of the activities the team performs using the solution.
