Woking couldn't be better placed, providing easy access to London (Waterloo Station), London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports and the UK motorway network.

At the same time, though, the Borough boasts a variety of natural habitats - Horsell Common is Woking's largest open space. Within easy walking distance of the town centre, part of it has been designated as a "Site of Special Scientific Interest". It is more famous though, as the landing place of the Martians in the HG Wells novel "The War Of The Worlds" - indeed Woking was once the home of the author HG Wells and long before, Henry VIII was a frequent visitor to the Borough, enjoying splendid hunting on the wide open space of the commonland. Today, over 90,000 people have made their home in the Borough.

Woking town centre offers a good selection of banks and shops and has two excellent covered shopping malls. There is also a good selection of restaurants along with a cinema multiplex and renowned theatre.
