Waterloo, ON – March 30, 2011: MKS Inc. (TSX: MKX) the global Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) technology leader, today announced TÜV SÜD Automotive, a global leader in technical certification services, is conducting a fit for purpose certification of MKS Integrity and a reference automotive solution for ISO 26262 functional safety.

The TÜV SÜD certification of MKS Integrity will provide an added level of confidence for automotive organizations that they can achieve their ISO 26262 compliance goals much faster and more cost effectively. The certification will be based on an audit of the software development, quality engineering, and defect reporting processes used by MKS in the development of MKS Integrity. In addition, TÜV SÜD will validate the platform using the MKS Integrity reference automotive solution to ensure ISO 26262 adherence.

“As the need increases for innovative and cost effective development processes that adhere to functional safety standards such as ISO 26262, many vehicle manufacturers and suppliers use MKS Integrity to implement safe system and software development processes in their engineering organizations,” said Christoph Braeuchle, Automotive Product Manager at MKS. “This allows process orchestration across the engineering disciplines, the ability to manage all engineering artifacts, their change history and their bi-directional lifecycle traceability in a single data model. The generic qualification and “fit for purpose” certificate alongside with the deliverables from this project minimizes the effort of organizations using MKS Integrity to comply with ISO 26262.”

“We are making good progress in the assessment which we started last November, and while assessing MKS Integrity’s capabilities for the use in safety related developments and the software development process at MKS, we will validate the quality and compliance of their Functional Safety manual to guide vehicle manufacturers and suppliers on how to stay conformant as they vary the reference solution to fit into their own specific development processes,” said Andreas Bärwald, Product Line Manager Electrical/Electronic Systems - Functional Safety and Technical Certifier at TÜV SÜD Automotive.
