Significant Enhancements for System i Take Aim at Improved Visibility, Productivity and Compliance
Waterloo, ON – June 26, 2006: MKS Inc. (MKS) (TSX:MKX), a premier provider of application lifecycle management (ALM) solutions, announced today the general availability of the 2006 edition of Implementer®, delivering significant enhancements for development teams in the IBM System i environment.
Significant technology trends in this market such as application modernization and SOA adoption, coupled with continued regulatory compliance demands, are causing IT organizations to adopt broader management platforms to control cross platform change. Equally, CIOs of large enterprise organizations are seeking to improve their alignment to the business by monitoring application development total spending.
To directly address these trends, MKS has added such capabilities as new portfolio management capabilities, enhanced integrations with MKS Source, and MKS Integrity, MKS’s distributed software change and configuration management and process and workflow components, plus impact analysts and auditing enhancements.
Implementer is a premier software configuration management and deployment solution for the IBM System i and has been architected to work seamlessly within a cross-platform environment, integrating with MKS Integrity. MKS provides a wholly-owned single change management solution spanning the System i and a broad range of distributed platforms.
"With the release of Implementer 2006 and MKS Integrity 2006, MKS continues to show its ongoing commitment to the needs of the IBM System i community," states John Quarantello, System i Tools Executive. "New, innovative features that enhance the WebSphere Development Studio client (WDSc) experience and more tightly integrate with MKS Integrity provide enhanced productivity for developers and improved visibility for IT managers."
Features and Benefits
New Source Repository
This release further unites
Implementer with the MKS Integrity platform, offering IT organizations
the ability to house System i source code with source for the rest of
the organization in a single, secure repository. This repository serves
as the foundation for both enhanced developer productivity, more secure
controls over source code assets, and greater ability to access MKS
Integrity’s application lifecycle management capabilities such as
requirements management, process and workflow support and
portfolio-based metrics and trending.
Enhanced graphical capabilities
In addition to an
enhanced IBM WebSphere Development Studio client (WDSc) facilitated by
MKS Source capabilities, Implementer also provides a unique alternative
to marrying host-based development with GUI capabilities. For
developers continuing to use traditional host-based tools for
development, Implementer now permits key GUI capabilities to be
launched directly from a developer’s 5250 emulation session.
Portfolio Management – MKS Portfolios
Lifecycle
data, metrics and trending connected to the application lifecycle
ensure unprecedented visibility into application development operations
and investments, enabling rapid and effective decision-making. MKS
Portfolios provides visibility into 100% of application development
expenditures, including new software projects and ongoing application
maintenance. Native System i application activity is now included in
scope, allowing CIOs and IT managers to monitor development and
operations metrics and trends in real time.
Auditing and Compliance
With regulations such as
Sarbanes Oxley continuing to drive improvements to IT controls, MKS is
delivering with this release several enhancements to Implementer’s
audit capabilities. In addition to securing of source code in a single
repository, a new verification feature detects violations of change
control procedures and detects the introduction of backdoor changes
into customer business applications. Many other panels and reports have
been enhanced to provide more detail information of interest during the
audit process.
And much more
This sweeping Implementer release contains
over 250 separate improvements driven as a result of customer feedback,
aimed at further simplifying the everyday tasks of software developers
and system administrators. Some of these changes include new impact
analysis improvements which contribute to higher quality applications,
simplified registering of applications to Implementer, and further
commitment to 3rd party products with enhanced integrations for CA
AllFusion 2E, LANSA, Oracle’s PeopleSoft World, and Pathfinder Systems’
Hawkeye.
