Fairfax, VA - May 4, 2004: MKS Inc. (MKS) (TSX:MKX), the leading provider of tools for porting UNIX/Linux applications to Windows, today announced availability of its new 64-bit products. MKS is shipping a beta version of MKS Toolkit for Enterprise Developers 64-bit edition with support for extended architecture 64-bit platforms such as AMD64 running Microsoft Windows 64-bit operating systems. Enterprise customers and ISVs now have a single solution that will allow them to migrate both 32-bit and 64-bit UNIX/Linux applications for deployment on 64-bit Windows platforms.

64-bit Windows is an ideal platform for applications that require large amounts of memory and high-performance such as financial transaction analysis, digital content creation, electronic design automation, data warehousing, mechanical design automation, and advanced scientific and research applications. MKS Toolkit for Enterprise Developers 64-bit Edition simplifies the migration of 32-bit and 64-bit UNIX applications to 64-bit Windows enabling customers to deploy their UNIX/Linux applications on both AMD64 and all 64-bit Intel-based boxes. Now the same success customers have been experiencing for the past 10 years with porting UNIX/Linux applications to 32-bit Windows can be replicated with the MKS Toolkit products for 64-bit Windows.

"The AMD Opteron™ processor is available today from server and workstation vendors for developers to use with the MKS Toolkit," said Ben Williams, director of AMD’s Server/Workstation Business Segment. "The combination of the AMD Opteron processor and the MKS toolkit provide developers an outstanding solution that can help dramatically improve performance-sensitive applications."

MKS Toolkit for Enterprise Developers is a proven solution for porting robust, mission-critical UNIX/Linux applications to Windows. The product allows organizations to leverage their existing investments in UNIX software and development expertise while reducing the total cost of ownership for applications deployed on both UNIX and Windows systems. Using MKS Toolkit for Enterprise Developers, companies can maintain a single source-code baseline and evolve applications as necessary to take advantage of Windows and .Net technologies.

"As the industry moves toward 64-bit Windows over the next two to three years, it will be crucial for companies to be able to very quickly and simply migrate legacy Unix and Linux applications," said Dennis Oldroyd, Director, Windows Server Product Group, Microsoft Corp. "The 64-bit edition of MKS Toolkit for Enterprise Developers that is being released in beta today will be a significant tool for our customers to use as they move to take full advantage of a high-performance, low-cost Windows 64-bit platform."

"At MKS, we understand the need to be ahead of the curve in today’s performance-driven computing world," says Tom Bosanko, President of MKS Interoperability Division. "As the leading UNIX to Windows migration solution for the 64-bit Windows platform, MKS Toolkit for Enterprise Developers 64-bit Edition will help ISVs and enterprises take advantage of these new high-performance platforms in a timely and cost-effective way."

Availability
MKS Toolkit for Enterprise Developers 64-bit Edition for extended architecture 64-bit platforms is currently in beta and available from the MKS website for trial download. The Windows OS and DDK that are needed to build and run these applications are currently available free from Microsoft to MSDN subscribers. General Availability of MKS Toolkit for Enterprise Developers 64-bit Edition is expected 2 weeks after the general availability of Microsoft Windows 64-bit operating systems for Extended 64-bit architectures is released later this calendar year.
