Waterloo ON - April 2, 2003: MKS Inc. (MKS) (TSX:MKX), a leading provider of tools to automate, secure, manage and control the software development process, today announced that MKS Product Manager, Steve Knapp, will present for the second consecutive year at the Institute of Internal Auditors' (IIA) Spring 2003 Conference to be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Monday April 7, 2003.

Mr. Knapp's session entitled, "Protecting Your Software Assets: The Benefits of Process Automation and the Capability Maturity Model (CMM)," (session #16) will provide IT auditors with an overview of CMM, a yardstick for measuring software process improvement. Steve Knapp will discuss automating software development processes implementations, as outlined in the CMM Level 2, to create a process framework aimed at reducing risk across the organization. He will also review the importance of audit requirements in driving software process improvement and discuss how requirements can be incorporated without negative impact to IT productivity. Mr. Knapp joins fellow presenters from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the MIS Training Institute, along with keynote speaker, Edward G. Boehne, former President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia who will share his views regarding corporate governance, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and internal auditing.

"Global IT organizations rely on software to provide a competitive edge. Yet with compressed delivery schedules and greater project complexity the challenge of error-free software grows more daunting," says Steve Knapp. "IT auditors play a crucial role in protecting an organization by minimizing the risk of software error, establishing sound IT quality controls and ensuring standards conformance. This presentation will discuss the role that automated, repeatable process and software configuration management tools play in helping IT auditors establish high levels of quality control across the enterprise."

Steve Knapp has more than 20 years of IT and product management experience covering the life insurance, customer relationship management and software configuration management industries. He has worked with Fortune 500, Internet and Financial firms in the assessment, development and ongoing oversight of SCM implementations. Mr. Knapp's background includes development, project management and product management in organizations that range from 30 to 30,000 employees.
