Waterloo ON - April 9, 2003: MKS Inc. (MKS) (TSX:MKX), a leading provider of tools to automate, secure, manage and control the software development process, today announced the validation of its integration between MKS Source Integrity® Enterprise Edition 8.3, the Company's enterprise software configuration management (SCM) solution, with IBM's WebSphere Studio® family of products. The integration meets the stringent functionality and business requirements necessary for validation, and provides WebSphere Studio developers and managers a single interface for an advanced, Java-based change management solution that improves real-time collaboration, while increasing the quality and reliability of business-critical applications.

MKS Source Integrity Enterprise combined with WebSphere Studio enables application development managers to better control the complexity and reduce the time and expense involved in building and maintaining distributed applications. The integration allows developers to access MKS Source Integrity Enterprise Edition without having to leave a familiar development environment. As a result, developers can work within their preferred integrated development environment (IDE) and continue to support the change management requirements of the organizations.

A key aspect of this integration is MKS's unique ability to dynamically update file status decorators that provide WebSphere developers with real-time status updates, thereby reducing the amount of code merging and increasing the visibility of project activities. Additionally, the seamless integration between MKS Source Integrity Enterprise and MKS Integrity Manager™ further improves team collaboration and overall productivity by ensuring a consistent approach to project management. It also provides a flexible, yet enforceable, process strategy across environments.

"MKS's advanced, state-of-the-art technology has provided integration with the Eclipse Platform that makes our life very easy," says Steven Goldsmith, Supervisor, Application Systems Architecture at FCCI Insurance Group. "Without leaving their IDE, our developers know the exact status of every file in their project. This information allows them to make informed, real-time decisions, and drastically reduces the amount of code merging required, thereby resulting in better overall quality and developer productivity."

"IBM is pleased to work with companies like MKS to provide a 'Ready for WebSphere' Studio validated development choice for our joint WebSphere customers," stated Scott Hebner, Director of WebSphere marketing, IBM. "The integration of MKS Source Integrity Enterprise Edition 8.3 for WebSphere will further enable companies to manage mission-critical applications for optimal performance."

"MKS has been an early adopter of several of IBM's development initiatives and continues to devote resources to advancing its technology," says David Martin, MKS Vice President Product Management. "This latest announcement is further evidence of our strong commitment to IBM and the Eclipse technology as well as providing customers with tightly integrated, innovative solutions that simplify their development efforts and improve productivity."
