Waterloo, ON – May 29, 2008: MKS Inc. (TSX:MKX) the rapidly growing thought leader in application lifecycle management, today announced a completely re-engineered integration with Eclipse - the dominant development environment for Java.
MKS has been positioned in the Leaders quadrant of Gartner's January 2008 "Magic Quadrant for Software Change and Configuration Management for Distributed Platforms". This integration exposes the industry leading SCCM functionality offered by MKS Integrity, MKS' application lifecycle management platform, directly within the Eclipse development environment. The new integration streamlines the developer experience, offering the following enhancements to improve productivity and promote ease of use:
- Full support for refactoring operations - refactoring, which involves significant structural changes to configurations, such as moves and renames, is a common activity in Agile development methodologies and often a necessity when maintaining legacy applications. MKS Integrity records Move and Rename operations as such, rather than recording these actions as Adds and Drops, thereby supporting the most complex refactoring methods available within Eclipse.
- Streamlined interface and simplified MKS menus - interaction with MKS is more intuitive for the user, with improved behavior and performance of decorators and common operations occurring automatically based on Eclipse gestures such as adding, editing, and deleting files.
- Ability to manage change at a task level via MKS Change Packages - change packages connect change management workflow to source code, allowing developers to intuitively manage change at a task level and easily switch between tasks. Change Packages selection and creation is more user-friendly within Eclipse, and the Eclipse Synchronize view can now be filtered by the active change package to display only the current task's work in progress.
- Ability for developers to work offline - additions, deletions, and edits done offline are automatically registered as changes once back online, giving developers greater freedom in how they work.
"Based on feedback from our customers who have made a strategic investment in Eclipse, MKS has made support for the Eclipse platform a key aspect of our core product development. This integration is a significant step in making Eclipse a first class interface into the full functionality of MKS Integrity," says MKS Product Manager, Colin Doyle. "Developers will enjoy a seamless experience - gaining access to sophisticated SCCM features without ever needing to leave their IDE and Managers in turn will reap the benefits of greater productivity and efficiency. We are pleased to continue our tradition of driving innovation for application lifecycle management within the Eclipse community. "
The integration with Eclipse is available to MKS Integrity customers using Eclipse 3.2.x or 3.3.x based IDEs. MKS Integrity also supports the IBM Rational family of Eclipse-based development tools and Borland JBuilder versions 2007 and 2008. The specific IBM Rational products supported are Rational Application Developer 7.0, Rational Software Modeler 7.0, Rational Software Architect 7.0, Websphere Developer Studio Client for System i 7.0 and Rational Developer for System i 7.1.
