Momentum within the Company's enterprise software configuration management (SCM) business segment continued during the fourth quarter. Fourth quarter SCM revenues increased to $6.4 million, representing 12 percent increase over SCM revenues of $5.8 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2003 and a 37 percent growth over SCM revenues of $4.7 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2002. The Company's cash position improved from $6.2 million to $7.7 million during the quarter.
"We had another excellent quarter with continued license growth driving increased profitability," said Philip Deck, MKS chairman and CEO. "With a strengthening balance sheet and growing profitability we continued to demonstrate MKS's ability to gain marketshare."
"We continued to make steady gains in the fourth quarter, with record enterprise SCM licensing," said Michael Harris, MKS chief operating officer. "The most recent release of our flagship software solution further extends our technology leadership in the industry, which will provide strong momentum over the upcoming year. Our customer base continues to invest in MKS not only for our technology direction, but also for our ability to work with them as partners, understand their requirements, deploy the MKS solution and add immediate enterprise-wide value."
As a matter of policy, MKS has decided not to offer financial results guidance on an ongoing basis, other than to confirm that the positive trends in demand for our products and services continues. This does not however, negate seasonal demand trends that normally result in a decrease in revenue from the fourth quarter to the first quarter. Due to this seasonality, the Company anticipates a modest loss in the first quarter.
Significant Customer Agreements
During the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003 MKS signed significant agreements with global enterprise customers including Abbott Laboratories, GE Marquette Medical Systems, HSBC Plc, HP Services, L-3 Communications, Mentor Graphics, NCR, Towers Perrin, and Philips Medical Systems Technology.
