Waterloo, ON - June 5, 2002: MKS Inc. (MKS) (TSE:MKX), a leading provider of tools to manage and control the software development process, today announced that the Federated Insurance Companies, which specialize in business insurance for selected industries, have chosen MKS Source Integrity® Enterprise for its enterprise software configuration management (SCM) needs.
In 2001 Federated was one of only eight insurance organizations named to the prestigious Ward's Financial Group Top 50 List of best practices for both Property and Casualty and Life and Health Insurance companies among thousands of insurers doing business in the United States. Federated Mutual, the major arm of the organization, has grown to be the fifth largest mutual property and casualty insurance company in the United States. Additionally, Federated was recently named to the Fortune 1000 list of America's largest corporations.
Federated sought an enterprise-wide SCM solution to replace its three existing SCM toolsets, in order to achieve greater leverage and efficiency in its client/server development operation and better satisfy internal auditing requirements with respect to change to the company's software. After an extensive evaluation period and consultation with a leading industry analyst firm, Federated selected MKS Source Integrity Enterprise Edition.
MKS's enterprise software configuration management solution was selected for its ease of configuration and intuitiveness, security mechanisms, and ability to easily be adapted into Federated's existing process and procedures.
Federated will initially deploy MKS Source Integrity Enterprise Edition to approximately 150 information systems software developers in its home office of Owatonna, MN, with plans to provide the technology to operations in Phoenix and Atlanta in the future.
"We saw some real innovation from MKS during our initial product demonstrations with respect to integrations into older generations of IDE's we utilize and ones that we'll be moving to in the future that we just didn't see from the other vendors," says Dale Phiefer, project manager at Federated Mutual Insurance. "As we standardize our tools and processes, we believe MKS offers the greatest flexibility in allowing us to achieve our goals, while meeting our auditing requirements."
