Waterloo, ON – July 20, 2010: MKS Inc. (TSX:MKX), the global application lifecycle management (ALM) technology leader, today announced that a key group within the US Department of Energy (DoE) has standardized on MKS Integrity™ as their ALM solution of choice. A joint solution delivered by MKS and BMC enables the DoE to achieve secure and auditable closed-loop incident detection, change management and resolution, ensuring that software changes are managed in harmony with mission objectives for critical software systems.
Established by Congress in 2000, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is a separately organized agency within the U.S. Department of Energy responsible for enhancing national security through the military application of nuclear science. The NNSA maintains and enhances the safety, security, reliability and performance of the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile without nuclear testing; works to reduce global danger from weapons of mass destruction; provides the U.S. Navy with safe and effective nuclear propulsion; and responds to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the United States and abroad.
“Our Enterprise Secure Network (ESN) encompasses all classified communications and computing systems and services, software applications, system data, security services, and other associated activities to ensure timely information flow of NNSA’s full spectrum of data sharing and business missions, said the ESN Federal Project Director, Office of the CIO at NNSA. “To keep the ESN secure, we must rapidly and auditably respond to incidents impacting our software systems, ranging from simple software bugs to cyber-terrorism attacks. The coherent ALM platform from MKS gives us the competence we need while adapting to our unique processes, all of which integrates beyond development to close the loop for incident and change management. Together, MKS and BMC give us full management and traceability that spans the entire process from the initial incident captured by IT service management, through the changes made in application development, and back out to operations with the deployed fixes or changes.”
“In any organization, the gaps between IT operations and development are where process management and traceability break down. When national security is at stake, this sort of gap is unacceptable – both process rigor and complete accountability are necessary," said John Cull, VP Marketing at MKS Inc. "Fortunately, this problem is solvable with the joint solution from BMC and MKS. Together, we enable the NNSA to bridge the information and process gap between IT business management and application development for rapid, accurate and reliable responses to any incidents impacting their Enterprise Secure Network. We anticipate delivering more and more solutions like this with our strategic partner BMC, both within the DoE and to other organizations.”
