Waterloo, ON —June 1, 2005: MKS Inc. (TSX:MKX) today announced that BNSF Railway Company (BNSF), which operates one of the largest railroad networks in North America with 32,000 route miles in 28 states and two Canadian provinces, has signed an enterprise agreement to standardize on the MKS Integrity Suite™ for application lifecycle management utilizing the MKS Federated Server™ architecture for real-time collaboration across multiple geographic sites.
After an exhaustive evaluation period of all the major market players, MKS was selected to partner with BNSF in its strategic business objective to automate its audit and compliance requirements and enhance process automation and tool standardization within its Technology Services group.
The MKS Integrity Suite will be deployed to approximately 500 developers, business and IT operations staff in Fort Worth, Texas, and abroad. MKS will provide BNSF’s IT team with centralized project management controls, real-time collaboration across geographically dispersed development locations, and increased security, audit-ability and traceability over all changes to BNSF’s IT systems and software applications. By standardizing on the full MKS Integrity Suite, BNSF directly benefits from:
- Better control, visibility, and audit-ability across its information technology organization, aiding the company in its business goal to establish a foundation for secure organizational IT change management and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance;
- MKS’s modern, one-architecture solution and demonstrated ability to rapidly implement, which was imperative to meet BNSF’s demanding compliance timeline;
- A continuous, uninterrupted process flow from requirements through to deployment, which ensures unprecedented management visibility into and control over all lifecycle activities;
- Improved development consistency through automated process and better, real-time cross-team communication and collaboration to reduce risk; and
- Greater accuracy and reproducibility of software to aid in BNSF’s ability to deliver projects on time and within budget at a low total cost of ownership.
“BNSF, utilizing a cross functional high performing team, selected MKS as our partner for three primary reasons. First, we have a very tight timeline for implementation and they proved they could meet that timeline. Second, their solution was the most integrated of all that we looked at; from requirements through production implementation. And last, their architecture would blend easily into that of BNSF. We are looking forward to this new business relationship and the benefits and value that it will bring to our organization,” says Jeffrey McIntyre, Vice President, Technology Services, BNSF Railway Company.
“BNSF is not only a rail industry leader, but also a leader in the use of technology to improve business processes. We are proud to have been chosen by such an IT visionary, with such rigorous standards. The response to our advanced, single architecture approach to the application lifecycle has been overwhelming,” says Michael Harris, COO, MKS Inc. “We will be closely focused on the roll-out of the MKS solution in order to aid BNSF in achieving new levels of process automation and productivity.”
